Many tourists in Charente Maritime visit the Isle de Re. Who can blame them? This beautiful place has wonderful towns and beaches and a chance to catch a sight of the occasional
retired French President!
If you pause before crossing the bridge to the island, however, there is the possibility of walking or cycling along the facing coast. On one of our days off we decided to give this a try. We parked at the foot of the bridge and walked along the coast to Le Plomb, a small village with an interesting history.There are a few "shack on the beach" fish restaurants that we liked. Worth a trip if you want to get a bit off the beaten track. We will definitely return there with our bikes.
