We visited St Jean d'Angely for their Christmas Market. This is a one evening affair in the beautiful surroundings of the Abbey. Choirs sang, mulled wine (lovely!) was sold and various stalls dished up food. Inside there was a superb craft market with wonderful products suitable as Christmas gifts. We bought an advent calendar for Tony's granddaughter Amelia. It was in the form of a wooden house with drawers for each day of Advent. This should last her into her adult life and become a cherished possession as these things often do.
Also, we visited Saintes on a sunny December Saturday morning and discovered, by chance, their Russian Christmas market. Very unusual, as we are used to German-type markets. There were Russian products for sale and a restaurant with Russian food and entertainment. Unfortunately, the market was coming to an end when we were there but the photos give an idea. Particularly quirky was the naming of various parts of the market in Russian! Very enjoyable and a coffee in the sunshine next to the river to finish. Definitely going to look out for this next year.
Nous avons visité St Jean d'Angély pour leur marché de Noël. Il s'agit d'une affaire d'une soirée dans le cadre magnifique de l'abbaye. Des chorales ont chanté, du vin chaud (charmant!) a été vendu et divers stands ont préparé de la nourriture. À l'intérieur, il y avait un superbe marché artisanal avec de merveilleux produits adaptés comme cadeaux de Noël. Nous avons acheté un calendrier de l'Avent pour la petite-fille de Tony, Amelia. C'était sous la forme d'une maison en bois avec des tiroirs pour chaque jour de l'Avent. Cela devrait la durer dans sa vie d'adulte et devenir une possession chère comme le font souvent ces choses.
Nous avons également visité Saintes par un samedi matin ensoleillé de décembre et découvert, par hasard, leur marché de Noël russe. Très inhabituel, car nous sommes habitués aux marchés de type allemand. Il y avait des produits russes à vendre et un restaurant avec de la nourriture et des divertissements russes. Malheureusement, le marché touchait à sa fin lorsque nous y étions mais les photos donnent une idée. La dénomination de diverses parties du marché en russe était particulièrement originale! Très agréable et un café au soleil au bord de la rivière pour finir. Nous allons certainement faire attention à cela l'année prochaine.
